		Clitherall Lake is a 2,493-acre moderately fertile lake located in south-central Otter Tail County approximately one mile south of Clitherall, MN.
		Clitherall Lake is included in lake class 22 of the Minnesota DNR lake classification scheme.
		Clitherall Lake can be ecologically classified as a bass-panfish-walleye type of lake and this is reflected in the assemblage of the fish community.

		The mainstay at Old Clitherall is the revered cemetery that's a final resting place for members of well-know families like the Whitings, Fletchers, Murdocks and Tuckers.
		Clitherall Lake, prior to the establishment of Old Clitherall, was named in honor of Major Gen. George B. Clitherall, registrar of a United States land office in 1858, when Minnesota joined the ranks of statehood.
		Old Clitherall, the first permanent settlement in Otter Tail County, is part of an exhibit at the Otter Tail County Historical Society's Museum in Fergus Falls.

	DNR/CLA Smallmouth Bass Project Proposed, Minnesota Lakes Association
		A plan for the enhancement of spawning and rearing structure for smallmouth bass in Clitherall Lake is being formulated in a joint effort between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Department and the Clitherall Lake Association.
		In order to protect the fish until they stabilize and produce a good viable population on their own, a "catch and release" attitude will be in place for a minimum of five years.
		Clitherall Lake has most of the components to become a trophy smallmouth lake and with a little help from the CLA and the DNR, we can one day boast of the fantastic fight put up by this stout and hardy fish.

		The first and, in many ways, one of the most interesting settlements made in Otter Tail county was that known as the Mormon settlement, near Clitherall lake, in what was later included in Clitherall township.
		It was in May, 1865, when a little band of this wandering tribe, composed of seven families, left the main body and turned their faces toward the Northwest.
		The township took its name from the lake of that name, and the lake took its name from Major George B. Clitherall, who was register of the United States land office at Otter Tail City from 1858 to 1861.
