  Clive Owen - King Arthur
British star-on-the-rise Clive Owen wants to make it clear that he is not in talks to be the next James Bond.
In this edgier, more realistic King Arthur, set in around 450 A.D, the Roman Empire is crumbling, and the British Isles are thrown into a loose anarchy as errant knights are entrenched in years of territorial battle.
Shooting King Arthur might have been physically tough for the actor who had never ridden a horse before, but at least, since the film was shot in Ireland, Owen was at least able to take advantage of the night life that country had to offer, he smilingly admits.

 Clive King
King employs multiple editing devices, layering disparate figurative, spatial, narrative and allegorical elements to produce enigmatic associations of a profound yet playful sort.
King gleans his imagery from autobiographical sources (travel and heritage, grief and frustration, subjective psychological history, collective and partial memory, childhood fears) but typically takes only bits and pieces of his experiences to represent them as inconclusive wholes.
King is a professor of studio art at Florida International University in Miami.

King Arthur (2004)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
With most of us having been brought up on tales of a medieval King Arthur and the magic of Camelot, it was a risk for those who initiated this movie to attempt to expose the man behind the myth, so to speak.
The issue of religious persecution is raised on numerous occasions in the duration of this movie and relates to contemporary circumstances where religious belief can be used as a form of power and means of superiority.
Clive Owen's 'Arthur' was a little internalised and predictable.

 TangognaT » King Clive
At this point, I’ve read Le Morte D’Arthur, The Once and Future King, Mists of Avalon and its sequels, The Dark is Rising series, Camelot 3000, and a ton of unmemorable fantasy adaptations of the Arthur myth.
So at the beginning of the movie when there was some schtik about the true history of King Arthur and “archaeological evidence” I accepted that as just part of the story that goes along with this adaptation.
Clive Owen does indeed wear armor, looks dour and haunted (he does that so well) and kills people with a sword.

King Arthur begins filming later this spring in Ireland under the direction of Antoine Fuqua.
Since King Arthur promises to be the most historically accurate film yet about the legendary British ruler, one wonders how the wizard Merlin will be portrayed.
According to Britannia, "Merlin first appears in extant records from the early 10th century as a mere prophet, but his role gradually evolved into that of magician, prophet and advisor, active in all phases of the administration of King Arthur's kingdom.

This abridged audio CD version of Clive King's classic is marvellously read by Tony Robinson (of 'Blackadder' fame).
For most of the story, Barney has a series of improbable experiences with his caveman friend, and is never pressed by his sister or grandparents to reveal the Stig he so openly discusses.
The very end of the story, with Stig returning to the 20th century and becoming a petrol pump attendant, is the weakest aspect, adn I'm not surprised that some TV adaptations have chosen other endings.
