The band went through a number of name changes including The Abdabs and The Screaming Abdabs but were unable to keep band members and the group broke up in 1965 when Metcalfe and Noble left the band.
Klose, a classmate of Syd Barrett and David Gilmour from Cambridge, was brought in to replace Metcalfe and, as a consequence, Waters was "demoted" to bass.
Chris Dennis, who was the new lead vocalist was soon replaced by Barrett.

CRAZY DIAMOND (BOX SET BOOKLET) -- 1993
Having added bassist Clive Metcalfe, the same act evolved into a variety of permutations - The T-Set, The (Screaming) Abdabs - each of which survived on a diet of de rigueur R&B.
Metcalfe then left the line-up; Waters switched from guitar to bass, but while Juliet Gale (who later married Wright) was briefly a member, Bob Close took over the lead spot of the group which underwent a radical change when Roger invited Barrett to join.
The latter's blend of mysticism, pop and hallucinogenics was at odds with Close's traditional outlook and the Abdabs imploded towards the end of 1965.

 The Pink Floyd Biography
Waters, studying architecture at the city's Regent Street Polytechnic, formed an RandB-based band, Sigma 6, with fellow students Nick Mason and Rick Wright.
The early line-up included bass player Clive Metcalfe - Waters favored guitar at this point - and Sensing a malaise, Roger invited Barrett to join but the latter's blend of blues, pop and mysticism was at odds with Close's traditional outlook and the Abdabs fell apart at the end of 1965.
Almost immediately Barrett, Waters, Mason and Wright reconvened as the Pink Floyd Sound, a name Barrett had suggested, inspired by an album by Georgia blues' musicians Pinkney 'Pink' Anderson and Floyd Council.
