  Review, Interviews: Clockstoppers
"Clockstoppers" is filled to the brim with these "Ewok" moments, created by middle-aged filmmakers who think they know what's "hip" with kids right now.
"Clockstoppers" is an atrociously bad movie for a variety of reasons - thin characters, poor acting, a script that bends the rules whenever it wants to, and the fact that it's just plain boring - but the worst part is the patronizing attitude behind it all.
The movie reminds you of that annoying uncle you had when you were a kid, the one who would pat you on the head and tell you that someday, when you're older, you'd understand but for now you should go play with your toys or something.

"Clockstoppers" might have been a much more jolly ride had the two teenagers not had to spend so much time talking about how they might be murdered any second.

 THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW--
CLOCKSTOPPERS ($30) is one of those movies that I like to term science fiction lite- just like regular science fiction, with only half the plausibility.
Of course, one has to remember that CLOCKSTOPPERS is a Nickelodeon co-production, with a somewhat juvenile target audience that isn't likely to question the film's gaps in logic.
Since CLOCKSTOPPERS is interned for the youth market, there is plenty of incidental pop music on the track- all of which is reproduced with terrific fidelity.

 Review: Clockstoppers
Clockstoppers, the new science fiction family adventure film from director Jonathan Frakes, illustrates that some fantasies are best left in the mind.
Clockstoppers doesn't just have holes big enough to drive a truck through; it has holes big enough to engulf an ocean liner.
Clockstoppers is obviously intended for the audience that enjoyed Spy Kids, but, despite some superficial similarities, this one lacks much of the charm, wit, and intelligence that marked Robert Rodriguez's first foray into family filmmaking.

 KINNOPIO - Clockstoppers
Nickelodeon's last release before Clockstoppers was the computer-animated Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and that saw success (and even an Oscar nomination) because of its originality and sharp-wittedness.
Sure, the kids liked the cool animation and funny characters, but the adults were able to enjoy it as well because it was clever and mostly made sense (this is the trick Disney has mastered long ago in its family films).
There is a thin action element to Clockstoppers, and that helps to make the majority of the audience (especially the kids) forget there is even a reason behind things, but it's really difficult to enjoy it as an action movie -- or as any kind of movie for that matter.

Clockstoppers is an enjoyable enough movie, though I have a hard time recommending it to anyone over the age of 15.
Clockstoppers' theory/idea could have made for a really cool story—instead of stopping time (or traveling back and fourth in it), a person is able to slow it down to a minute crawl.
There are a few interesting tidbits to be found here (including some rather cool footage on how some of the special effects were achieved), though otherwise this is a clips-heavy documentary that won't add much to one's knowledge of the production.

The only thing that Clockstoppers doesn't seem to have borrowed from its predecessors is a sense of humour and a kernel of intelligence.
Worse than all that narrative laziness, Clockstoppers makes the mistake of attempting a hackneyed scientific explanation of the time-stopping device ("It speeds up your molecules!") without also attempting to justify how such a thing wouldn't result in the combustion or disintegration of the subject, or how it would change the subject's perception of time.
Clockstoppers is, however, the most well meaning and scatology-free of the recent spate of made-for-teen movies--a fact that in of itself only means that the bad taste that lingers from the picture stems from bored disdain rather than disgust.

Clockstoppers Movie Review (2002) from Channel 4 Film
Since the invention of 'time slice' photography (the special effect technique made familiar in the 'bullet time' sequence of The Matrix), filmmakers have been trying to exploit it further.
Cynics could say Clockstoppers is an attempt to build a story around this technique.
The film, however, is enough fun, and has enough straightforward charm, to amount to more than its funky special effects.

Both a teen romance and a story about having the ability to literally stop time in its tracks, "Clockstoppers" is a family-friendly fantasy that ends up doing very little with its imaginative premise.
The idea of "hyper-time" is a fascinating one, and some of the special effects are rather cool to look at, as Zak and Francesca make their way around a city of people, cars, animals, and water that have seemingly come to a standstill.

Though they might have to go to school, they might rather ride their bikes all day, scope out potential dates, and go to raves all night.
Better, the film never denigrates a teen worldview in favor of "mature" sensibilities: its plot moves quickly, but not necessarily efficiently; its look is colorful and action sequences are fanciful.
In fact, Clockstoppers' teenaged protagonist Zak Gibbs (Jesse Bradford) is a younger, baggier-pants version of Frakes' best-known incarnation, as Commander William Riker of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
