  Clockwatchers
Clockwatchers delivers plenty of laughs around these and other corporate phenomena, but somewhere in the middle of the movie, its comic skin is peeled back and revealing a surprising, almost surreal core of unhappiness and mistrust among its central characters.
Clockwatchers does not fully capitalize on all of the plotlines it begins to lay out for itself, but the intensity and compassion with with the Sprecher sisters examine their protagonists make Clockwatchers an intriguing and enjoyable hour and a half.
Clockwatchers represents temporary work not as a morass in which talented individuals must briefly bide their time, but as a peculiar limbo-state of employment for oddball people who exist in their own limboes, neither adept nor incompetent, neither reliable nor deceptive, neither loyal nor self-serving.

Qwipster's Movie Reviews - Review: Clockwatchers
Iris begins to love her job until a rash of random items around the office begin to disappear and the temps are suspected as being culprits to these robberies.
CLOCKWATCHERS may be easy to dismiss as a rough draft of a real movie, or merely to unsubstantial to truly entertain.
CLOCKWATCHERS may only really be understood by people who have ever worked in an office, who will recognize how the most trivial of issues can blow out of proportion and how the most worthless of items can be seen as prized possessions.

 Clockwatchers
Sprecher and her sister Karen, who co-wrote the script, would probably say the movie's not about temping but about the characters, and that's precisely the problem, since the characters are mostly bores.
It's too bad the satirical angle is abandoned so soon, since Clockwatchers stops far short of exhausting the possibilities, and never touches on the real insidiousness of temp work: the rapid growth of no-security, no-benefit jobs as a short-term fix for corporate greed.
Posey brings her usual pathological sassiness to the party, and Kudrow, a tart and underrated comedian, is surprisingly moving as a woman who can't break the habit of dreaming even though she's already given up hope.

'Clockwatchers': Sedition and Subjugation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
As it follows the lives of four office temps who work side by side in the sterile cubicles of a corporate colossus called Global Credit, the movie rubs your face in the petty humiliations endured by women at the low end of the company totem pole.
"Clockwatchers" observes this world through the eyes of Iris (Toni Collette), a shy newcomer to Global Credit who, during her first day on the job, is befriended by the flouncing, rebellious Margaret (Parker Posey), a peripatetic temp who has thought up a hundred little ways to sabotage the companies she works for.
The story of "Clockwatchers" revolves around an office witch hunt after some petty thievery in which suspicion falls on the four friends.

What's refreshing about Clockwatchers is the way it exposes the alienation of modern corporate life without resorting to the usual movie cliches.
Clockwatchers, for all its interesting European styling, has pinned down two realities most realistically: life in a business office and what life is like when you are waiting for it to become something, anything.

Clockwatchers Movie Review by Anthony Leong
The strength of "Clockwatchers" lies in its examination and merciless derision of human behavior in the corporate setting.
The office is a dehumanizing environment for all the employees, whether they are perms or temps, and they each create their own trivial fiefdoms and delusions of importance, not only as a means of exerting some sort of control over their lives, but also to hide their own inadequacies.
As a film, "Clockwatchers" is brilliantly directed by Jill Sprecher, with every element contributing to the no-holds-barred skewering of office life-- especially the tacky retro-Seventies production design, and the innocuous muzac that always plays in the background.

 MetroActive Movies | Clockwatchers
WHAT AN appropriate title Clockwatchers is. Director Jill Sprecher and her sister, co-writer Karen Sprecher, have that usual problem of budding independent filmmakers: How do you stretch out to the necessary hour and a half running time with only one hour's worth of plot?
While the Sprechers unleash Collette at the end of the film, most of Clockwatchers has her shuffling through the picture with her hair in her eyes.
It's a credit to the Sprechers that they don't bring the film to a strong point--the characters drift apart instead of being driven apart, and the film comes to a delicate finish.

"Clockwatchers" is a jewel of a film, and it was so refreshing to watch the characters and their various interactions with each other that I totally got caught up in it.
Thanks to the smart, perceptive screenplay, also written by Sprecher, and the performances by all four leads, the characters easily were able to come alive.

Like nomads of the corporate terrain, the young temp workers in Jill Sprecher's "Clockwatchers" hold an uncertain yet hopeful vision of what lays ahead in their future.
Both Jill and her sister, Karen, have crafted a genuinely witty yet sensitive screenplay surrounding the insecurities and dreams of four young women who grin and bear their fleeting 9-5 livelihood.
This lack of animated buffoonery makes "Clockwatchers" appealing mostly to audience members who recognize the struggles and triumphs of the odd-man or odd-woman-out in the world of corporate cronies.

Clockwatchers is an immortal classic about a foursome of ghost temps who find themselves in the shadowy realm between corporate reality and basic insanity.

Much like Office Space, Clockwatchers mocks the dumb structure of corporate life, from the organized chaos to the petty jealousness of the people within.

It really, unless you happen to be a curious person or a psychoanalyst, doesn't concern you why a writer wants to write, a painter wants to paint, etc. However, even the writers and painters often do not have much of a clue where their ideas come from.
The success of Clockwatchers in having a vignette-esque nature and being about nothing more than stealing office supplies leads me to believe that we may see a whole new slew of art-house films about the office space.
The problem inherent in the title Clockwatchers is that it leaves itself open for the attack that I will now make.

 Vault 1 - Review: Clockwatchers
Boasting a cast of indie queens and television personalities, "Clockwatchers" is an appealing comedy about four temp workers in an organization, waiting out their time as they try to become somebody in what they consider their post-office hours, "real" lives.
The script sometimes over-reaches itself, trying to metaphorically examine ponderous life issues such as "the transience of friendships" and "the constant race of life" - these moments, mostly done via voice-over narration, seem jarring and out of place.
The best things on offer in "Clockwatchers" are the spot-on observations of the lives of those at the lower end of the corporate ladder, and some good performances.
