Thus, the film advance interlock prevents the camera user from rotating the rewind wheel in the advance direction and thereby fooling himself into thinking that he has moved the exposed film into the film cassette and moved the next frame of film to be exposed into the film exposing area.
In operation, the sprocket is rotated due to the preloading of film-moving film from the film cassette to the film spool-and this rotates the cam.
Thus, as the film moves along the film path, the sprocket 64 is driven to rotate clockwise as the film moves in the advance direction and counterclockwise as the film moves in the rewind direction.

Clockwise is pure British farce, some may point to the “Carry On” films but these rarely stray into the arena of pure traditional stage farce.
This film is not for everyone who likes Cleese and it is not for everyone who likes Fawlty Towers (although there are elements of that here).
This film had a moderately successful run in the UK but surprisingly this budget release from Anchor Bay is pretty good given the lack of interest in the U.S. As with all Anchor Bay budget releases the packaging is perfunctory with a simple chapter card insert and static menus revealing 23 chapter stops.

The end of the film is then pushed into the slot in the center hub of the empty daylight spool and the film rapped around the hub clockwise, with the emulsion in, until it will fit onto the take-up spindle (left side-b) with the minimum excess.
Rapping the film around the hub of the daylight spool causes it to tighten around itself, but it is worth checking that the film hasn’t slipped out of the slot by trying to turn the take-up spool clockwise once it is mounted on the hub and making sure it offers resistance.
If the film is going over rather than under either of these on its way to the take-up spool it will cause a scratch on the film and possibly cause the camera to jam.

In a series of industrial films, Cleese used his stiff-necked comic persona to advise the service industries on the need for flexibility and listening skills in dealing with customers, attributes of social intelligence the classic Cleese character hasn’t got a jot of.
The idea behind this group of films was later crystallized as the sublime phony instructional film, "How to Irritate People." Clockwise is a light-hearted farce that works because John Cleese is so effective as the tightly wound, punctilious headmaster whose well-organised life unravels in a series of disasters on his journey to a conference.
Cleese is a master of fussy, fastidious characters in exasperating situations, bottling up his frustration under good manners and sardonic comments until he finally blows, but he’s also startlingly vulnerable as he systematically loses all sense of himself.
This may be a low-budget film, but it is in my view John Cleese's funniest and most underrated movie.
