The closure of Clondalkin Paper Mills outside Dublin in January 1982, discarding 450 jobs, led to a year-long sit-in by the workers which was recounted in Part 1 (1).
The Clondalkin workers were quite clear that the commitment given on 8th February was to the purchase of the plant and to the re-opening schedule laid down by the previous, Fianna Fail, government (6).
This phase of their struggle was deliberately one of "non-trade-union activities".The Clondalkin workers were before long to embrace the most direct industrial methods again, and even at this stage their leaders let it be known that 'trade union activities' were only temporarily parked.

Clondalkin Round Tower is an upright cylindrical tower built between 1100 and 1200 of 17.2 Salt minerals (white) in the masonry mortar of the crypt coursed, roughly squared rubble masonry.
It is located in the urban, inland environment of Clondalkin, Co. Dublin.
The main threat to the conservation of the monument is the expansion and further development of the incipient, pollution-induced gypsum encrustations.
