"Clonegal Castle lies on the banks of the River Derry, "Doire", The Grove of the Oak, upstream before it joins the Slaney, "Slainte", River of Healing.

With the advent of new houses in Clonegal and with extra capacity on the sewerage system it is incumbent on the Council to ensure that this problem does not reoccur.
I have spoken to local residents who have had the sewerage backing up to their kitchen door and who are terrifified of disease effecting themselves or their animals.
The Slaney is one of Clonegal's main attractions and Clonegal is one of Carlow's most beautiful and litter free villages.

 Carlow Nationalist: Clonegal top of litter league
CLONEGAL teams have been involved in many competitions in their time, and have always given a good account of themselves, but now they are involved in what must surely be one of the toughest competitions of them all - The Carlow Litter League.
Needless to say the Clonegal people were delighted to find that their village was the only one in the county with the magic 100%.
It will be a hard task to keep the level Clonegal has set up, but it must be done, several of the other villages were in the high 90’s which goes to show that this is going to be a hard competition to win, so it must be an all out effort.
