In his well delivered post-match speech, Clongowes captain John Smyth spoke of the legend that was the late, great Vinny Murray and how the schools' former assistant headmaster and coach will live forever.
Clongowes not surprisingly competed better for Terenure's ruck ball, while also protecting their own, and so were able to take the game through several phases.

Laois Nationalist: Breaking News - Printer Friendly Version
Clongowes, who have already eliminated Terenure and St. Paul’s, are advocates of total rugby; keeping the ball alive, the creed followed also by Greg McInerney in Newbridge.
Wood defeated Rock in the ‘98 quarter-final, a fact which will add drive to the Williamstown bid, but Clongowes banished any inferiority complex about the Co. Dubliners last year, and with several of the team still in harness they could well move onto a semi-final date with St. Mary’s- another of Clongowes victims last season.
Greg and his counterpart in Clongowes, Vincent Murray, have always breathed the gospel of open football, and while Newbridge have quite a formidable pack - groomed over the last number of years- they have the talent to play an expansive game.

Engels | Joyce, James | A portrait of the artist as a young man
His parents managed to scrape together enough money to send their talented son to the Clongowes Wood College, a prestigious boarding school, and then to the less-expensive Belvedere College, where Joyce excelled as an actor and a writer.
Like Joyce himself, Stephen is the son of an impoverished father and a highly Catholic mother; like Joyce, he attends Clongowes Wood, Belvedere, and University College, and like him, he struggles with questions of faith and nationality before leaving Ireland to make his own way as an artist.
Many of the scenes from the book are fictional, of course, but some of the most powerful are virtually autobiographical: both the Christmas-dinner scene shortly after the death of Charles Parnell and Stephen's first sexual experience with the Dublin prostitute accord closely to actual experiences in Joyce's life.
