Clonus is repetitive, rhythmic contractions of a muscle when attempting to hold it in a stretched state.
Clonus is not the same thing as myoclonus, which is irregular and uncontrollable jerks of a muscle or group of muscles.
Clonus in initiated in the spinal cord and is usually a sign of damage to the nerve tracts above the place where it is initiated.

 Hypertonia, clonus , & spasticity
Clonus is a reflex that is a spasmodic alternation of muscular contraction and relaxation., usually seen in the calf muscle reaction when the foot is sharply bent upwards towards the thigh and held in mid position
The presence of clonus can be a sign of neurologic problems but alone is not enough for diagnostic purposes.
Perisistant clonus can interfere with putting shoes on and can be stopped generally by putting the calf muscle on a end range stretch.

 Pedal clonus
Clonus is another thing and basically means that foot shakes rhythmically on reflex testing.
It is a nonspecific sign of hyperactive reflexes - some nonsustained jerks of clonus at the ankle is sometimes seen in normal people.
Sometimes as we all age, we get a little neck arthritis which can cause active reflexes or mild clonus, but if no other problems or exam findings exist, no further workup is done.

 Parts: The Clonus Horror
Clonus (also known under the more dramatic title of Parts: The Clonus Horror) has probably been most widely seen as an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 where it was lampooned by Mike Nelson and a pair of talking robot friends.
Richard plans and successfully launches his escape from the Clonus compound and heads out into the real world where he finds out that he is in fact a clone, as is everyone else at the compound aside from the administrative staff.
The subject that the film deals with is probably more relevant today than it was when the film was made (and if you don’t believe me do a search for cloning, or read up on some of the current events taking place regarding stem cell research!) and the storyline handles the subject matter well.

Clonus is a covert complex hidden away in the California countryside.
Without a doubt, Clonus falls into the latter category of being in the better films which have been ridiculed, which seems unfair, as having watched the film without having seen the version which mocked it, it is actually enjoyable and quite chilling.
Clonus is an intelligent, thought provoking and entertaining dark thriller, despite there being the occasional lapse of logic here and there.

 DVD Verdict Review - Clonus
Now the big shots that run the operation are after their fugitive clone, and suddenly everyone who is sucked into the truth is equally at risk.
Over-the-top adjectives aside, Clonus is not a horror film and, apart from a brief scene of a clone getting her head buzz-sawed, there are really no moments of "jaw-dropping terror." The reason I bring this up is not to criticize the quality of the movie.
Clonus isn't a balls-out action film, but the acting and pacing were executed solidly enough to keep me engaged.

the agony booth : PARTS: THE CLONUS HORROR Review
After Richard makes his escape from Clonus, he stupidly risks life and limb to go back for Lena, because they have the kind of real, lasting love that can only come about after a one-night stand on a camping trip.
Unfortunately, he's only alive today due to the magic of Clonus and its spiffy organ bank, and Richard's escape might spell doom for him and his increasingly ambiguous campaign.
And somehow, the Clonus colony remains top secret and unknown to the public, despite his best efforts.

Monsters At Play: Clonus Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, however, this is not some sort of high school gym class run amok, but rather all part of a vast conspiracy on behalf of the Clonus Corporation, which is in the business of, naturally, cloning humans.
Without saying too much, the Clonus facility is a farm rather than a science experiment, so the very notion of having a “control group” of clones is a rather ridiculous one, which makes it pretty clear that this is nothing more than a rather obvious plot device.
Clonus, which has been re-mastered from its original negative, is presented here in its 1.66:1 aspect ratio with anamorphic enhancement.

Lo and behold "The Island" is indeed a remake of Clonus.
On its own the best part of Clonus is its great premise, clones raised for spare body parts for the rich and politicians.
Clonus (1979) aka Parts: The Clonus Horror has been vilified over the years, even given the MST3k treatment but, in its defense, as a sci-fi thriller, I didn't think it was all that bad.

 “Clonus” Director May Seek Injunction
“Clonus” is an obscure cheapie with a fascinating premise, best known now because of the ridiculing it took in a “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ episode.
In “Clonus,” the closely monitored, mod-clothed, naive residents of a futuristic colony are chosen to go to a promised land called “America.”
In both movies, a male resident goes on the run when he discovers that the promised land is a lie, and that he’s part of a colony of clones being grown to harvest their organs when the rich human originals ail.

 Clonus
The outcome of the story then ultimately hinges on whether our heroic clone and his friends can survive the many challenges presented by a shadowy and vindictive government and if his story will be told to the world or kept hidden forever inside the classified clone campus.
There’s little doubt that Clonus is very definitely a product of its time, as the rampant paranoia of its theme reflects a common post-Nixon viewpoint of government and corporate endeavor.
Also contained on this disk are the by now expected inclusions that come with every release from this company: the movie’s original trailer, a stills and promo materials gallery and a batch of previews that includes both older catalog stuff and a look at two very promising looking future DVD’s (Satanico Pandemonium and Panic Beats).

DVD Talk > Reviews > Clonus (Parts - The Clonus Horror)
Though obviously made on the cheap - it was shot in 18 days for just $257,000 - the picture has a strong story, imaginative touches throughout, and its ambitions wisely don't try to go beyond what was possible with the money and time that was available.
Along with Shock Waves (1976) and a few others, Clonus is one of the best low-budget genre films of its era, and deserves to be better known.
Probably inspired by the common problem of inmates' anxiety and desire to return to the "comfort" of prison after their release, Richard likewise longs for Clonus soon after he escapes.

the agony booth : ALL ABOUT THE ISLAND AND CLONUS
Anyone who's seen the trailer or a sneak preview and has also seen the film Clonus (also known as Parts: The Clonus Horror)—a film which was shown on CBS, the Sci-Fi Channel, and even Mystery Science Theater 3000—knows that the plots are way too similar to be mere coincidence.
Clonus tells the story of Richard, a resident of a contained utopian facility.
Yet, amazingly, the original makers of Clonus (director Robert S. Fiveson, producer Myrl A. Schreibman, and screenwriters Bob Sullivan and Ron Smith) have been completely shut out, receiving no credit, no compensation, no anything. And that includes never being asked if it could be remade.

In addition to unspecified financial compensation, Myrl A. Schreibman and Robert S. Fiveson want "The Island" withdrawn from theaters and any further release barred, Variety said.
Both films tell the stories of clones being raised as spare parts for humans but while "The Island" cost $120 million to make, "Clonus" was made on a $250,000 budget.

 Parts: The Clonus Horror
When the answer proves unconvincing, Richard does a little snooping with the aid of his beautiful girlfriend, Lena (Breen), and discovers the horrible truth: everyone there is a clone being cultivated for a sinister purpose involving politicians outside in the real world.
After escaping from Clonus and running through the desert, Richard finds the world outside is very different from what he imagined and his story less than believable.
Just remember that Clonus got there first and still has a great deal of merit if you're willing to meet it halfway; particularly effective is the eerie choral-themed music, whose presence over the Clonus scenes feels like some '70s educational film gone horribly wrong.

They all seem rather naïve and constantly talk about getting ready to “go to America.” Of course, when one of them graduates to “America” we see him get taken back into a lab where some sort of surgery is performed on him that involves wrapping him in some plastic saran wrap.
Richard also finds a videotape that conveniently explains everything at Clonus so he escapes to “America” on his own, leaving his new airhead girlfriend Lena behind.
So they help the clone get away from the people chasing him so he can head back to the Clonus Colony (which is probably the stupidest thing he could do since it’s exactly what the people after him wanted).
