Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) is a science-fiction movie about UFOs, written and directed by Steven Spielberg.
Close Encounters was perhaps the most important science fiction movie up to that point to introduce benign or even kind aliens, a sharp departure from the 'evil monster' style of most earlier films.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) is director/writer Steven Spielberg's first film after the enormously successful blockbuster Jaws (1975).
Appearing in the late 1970s, it was a soulful, beguiling, magical, and benevolent look at 'close encounters.' The opening scene is the first of over a half dozen set-pieces of 'close encounters,' all seemingly unconnected events, that provide clues, which ultimately culminate in the extraordinary climax of the film.
