ClosedBSD is based off of the FreeBSD kernel, and uses ipfw as it's native ruleset management system, and natd as it's network address translation utility.
ClosedBSD is certainly not everything our commercial product (a residential gateway server/router/firewall) is, but given the simple menuing system and the goof-proof non-installation, I'd call ClosedBSD a qualified success.

Well guys I've got a 486 layin around and I've decided to turn into a router.
My dilemna is which OS to use, though I have narrowed it down to ClosedBSD or Coyote.
I haven't used closedBSD so I don't know how it is too set up.

Well, I have tried a ton of the other mini distros and always ran into one issue or another.
My favorites were always ClosedBSD and Sentry (which are CD based firewall distros) but ClosedBSD was TOO closed (no ssh access) and Sentry was a but unstable in the RedHat form (still beta).
What I want was a 2.4 based firewall that can be floppy or CD booted (so that my firewall machines dont have to have a hard drive at all, less moving parts), runs iptables, and has outside ssh access.

It would appear though each BSD has its part in the community, and Mini versions such as closedBSD and EmBSD have even cropped up.
The latest traffic as of late has been from the OpenBSD community, and their hard work on the specific aspects of security.
