Talkin' Broadway Regional News & Reviews - "Closer Than Ever" - 2/3/05
Before I heard the score of Closer Than Ever, Porchlight’s decision to include a revue in their 2004-05 season seemed a bit out of character for a company that has focused on book musicals.
Closer Than Ever, though its songs were taken from a variety of origins, is fairly tightly focused on the process of growing up from young adulthood through middle age, and on accepting the changes that come with physical and emotional maturation.
Closer Than Ever will be performed Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m.

Although little more than pinpricks to the Israelis, these attacks were effective armed propaganda in the Palestinians' political offensive to force the Arab regimes, particularly Egypt under Gamal Abd al-Nasser, to practice what they preached regarding Palestine.
This was primarily due to the creeping annexation of land by the Israeli occupation authorities and the establishment of Israeli settlements on the confiscated lands.
The uprising shattered the barrier of fear of the occupier, strengthened the sense of self-reliance, and in general empowered a population that had been systematically deprived of control over its destiny during two decades of Israeli occupation, and before that for 19 years under Jordanian and Egyptian rule.

Actually a collection of 20 individual vignettes all performed through song, "Closer Than Ever" is not without a sense of humor or sensitivity to human emotion.
It is the audience's first glimpse into the mischievous spirit that underlies "Closer Than Ever" and its ability to laugh at itself and convention.
They are consistent in providing the tone of each performance and it is thanks in large part to their dead-on talent that "Closer Than Ever" is afforded its success.

Closer, in fact, than at any time in recorded history.
Mars is going to be spectacularly bright -- the brightest Mars you and any of your ancestors have ever seen -- at negative 2.9 magnitude, making it easy to see even from light-polluted urban areas.

RECORDINGS; 'Closer Than Ever' Is One From the Heart - New York Times
One feels the edge of forced, desperate merriment in a lyric that at bottom is about rationalizing one's fears of mortality at an age when life has begun to feel uncomfortably finite.
The songs in ''Closer Than Ever'' are awash with emotion as they reflect on marriage, parents and children and lasting friendships.
The most insistent thread of emotion that runs through the score is the realization that although middle age may be a time of fulfillment in career and family, the yearnings of youth still nag.

In-flight broadband to take off with AirCell? - Mobile & Wireless - Breaking Business and Technology News at ...
The network, which the privately held company hopes to begin testing and deploying on commercial aircraft next year, would work by channelling communications from at least one miniature cell site - called a "picocell" - on the plane to special cell sites on the ground.
AirCell's plan would not conflict with a federal ban on in-flight mobile phone use because the proposed network operates at a different frequency than that which could pose interference threats to aircraft navigational systems, according to a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) official.
The company said it will be able to keep traditionally high installation and operating costs low by using "commercially available" technology and a direct air-to-ground link, rather the than bulky, expensive satellites used by some existing in-flight communications systems.
