  Dr. Dobb's | Java, SQL, Cloudscape, and Derby | October 8, 2004
Cloudscape DBMS was developed in the quest for a minimalist SQL database management system (DBMS) for embedding in Java applications, web servers, and mobile devices.
One factor that limits Cloudscape's ability to scale is that it creates a new file in seg0 each time you add a table to a database.
Cloudscape uses a boot password for encrypted databases, a separate password from the one used to open a JDBC connection.

Informix buys Cloudscape, joins embedded database party - Java World
Informix and Cloudscape have reached a definitive agreement for Informix to acquire privately-held Cloudscape through an exchange of 10 million Informix common stock shares for all of Cloudscape's outstanding stock and options, Informix said in a statement.
A key aspect of remote and embedded databases is their ability to be in sync with server-level databases, meaning, for example, that a sales representative can enter data remotely into a database on his or her notebook computer or handheld device and then replicate that information to the company's main sales database.
Cloudscape's eponymous SQL (structured query language) database is written in the Java programming language and has full object/relational capabilities, according to the Informix statement.

Application Development Trends - eADT at LinuxWorld Update: IBM open-sources Cloudscape DB
Cloudscape/Derby was originally developed during the early Java days by start-up Cloudscape, which was acquired by Informix, a company IBM acquired in June 2000 for $1 billion.
Prial was part of the IBM team that, in 1998, conducted an analysis of open source that led to the formulation of that strategy.
Still, the fact that IBM has utilized the Cloudscape technology in so many of its own products should reassure the open source community that Big Blue is behind the effort, Gilpin said, especially the company's decision to utilize it in its Workplace products.

CloudScape VR adds functionality to Vega by facilitating the addition of weather clouds, battlefield effects (e.g., bomb-caused dust clouds) and atmospheric obscurants to simulations.
CloudScape VR uses the radiometric database to display the viewable cloud facets, with the appropriate radiances and transmissions at each facet vertex.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by metal rock band Cloudscape
Cloudscape rose out of Doctor Weird and they play no frills melodic metal.
Best of the bunch are opener ‘As The Light Fades Away’ that has a catchy chorus and some neat guitar passages and ‘Dawn Of Fury’ which kicks in nicely after some pomp keys.
Cloudscape have recorded a well played and produced album but it just lacks that killer tune or two to raise this release above the myriad of other power/melodic metal releases out there.

Cloudscape have been booked for several live shows during 2006 including some well known festivals and they are also talking about doing a smaller tour in Germany later in 2006.
