After our failed attempts at the Dodds and the High Stile ridge, albeit for different reasons, in July, we were determined to put things right as soon as we could, and we were fortunate enough to be able to come back in early September to do so.
The itinary was the same as before: park at Stanah for Sticks Pass, then walk the Dodds and Clough Head.
But, like the Dodds, the path is steady and even, and we soon reached the Trig Point and Summit Cairn of Clough Head.

There are several routes to the summit, one of the simplest being a bridleway that leads up from the Aira valley, some 4 km to the north east.
It stands between Clough Head and Stybarrow Dodd on the Helvellyn range.

If you can tear your eyes away from the north-western fells, on this walk you also get a good view to the south-east of the longest ridge walk in the Lakes, from Clough Head in the north (the nearest fell in the picture) across Helvellyn in the far distance to Dollywaggon Pike (out of sight).
You tend to walk the ridge towards Clough Head, because a) it's mostly downhill after the initial climb, and b) there are two good pubs in Threlkeld at the foot of Clough Head.
The second picture below is taken from the top ridge of Latrigg, from where you can also see the eastern edge of Keswick down on the right.

This was the third band of cloud and snow that had passed over us since we were on Stybarrow Dodd.
