CLUBNOUVEAU, under the direction of musical masterminds JAY KING and VALERIE WATSON, is perhaps one of the most distinctive and original groups to influence the contemporary music scene.
Considering the fact that ClubNouveau was in the infancy of their careers, it becomes quite apparent as to the legacy that was quickly evolving.
ClubNouveau toured worldwide, returning to their third album project on the Warner Bros. Records label, Under A Nouveau Groove.
The funky, dance-oriented R&B act ClubNouveau stormed onto the musical scene in late 1986 with Life, Love, & Pain.
Half the songs on this eight-title set received some form of airplay, but none matched the success of their lighthearted, reggae/hip-hop remake of the Bill Withers classic "Lean on Me," which topped the American pop charts for two weeks in 1987.
There are a few compilations on ClubNouveau, but to capture the spirit of the band at their best, go with Life, Love, & Pain.

Lots of unremarkable Club music on the album with one very notable exception - Lean on Me. The album is worth buying just for this rendition.
The remake of the Bill Withers' hit "Lean On Me", the Club made it faster and as stated by the vocals "...we be jammin', we be jammin'..." As another life situation approaches, it seems hard to deal with some and easier with others.
If you liked ClubNouveau in the 80's then you would definitely love this album.

By the time the 1990s rolled around, much of the urban contemporary world had pretty much given up on Jay King and assumed that his career was over and done with.
ClubNouveau had lost too many key members (most notably, Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, who were busy working with En Vogue and others), and it seemed doubtful that King's band would make a comeback.
But in 1992, King gave it a shot with A New Beginning, which unveiled a new ClubNouveau lineup.

ClubNouveau formed in Sacramento in 1986, including Jay King,
King was the creative force behind the hit "Rumours" by the Timex Social Club in 1986, and formed King Jay Records for ClubNouveau.
They made some good disco-flavored and funk tunes, and had four consecutive hits in 1986 and 1987: "Jealousy," "Situation #9," a cover of Bill Withers' "Lean on Me," and "Why You Treat Me So Bad." The last two both reached the number-two spot on the R&B charts.
