Clue (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clue is a 1985 U.S. comedy film based on the boardgame Clue (also known as Cluedo).
Movie advertisements would list which theaters in an area would be showing what were called the "A", "B", or "C" endings.
Clue, made in the 1980s, is set in the 1950s and makes frequent reference to the sociopolitical climate of the time.

 Clue: The Movie (1985)
Clue is a modest little piece that maintains a consistently - and appropriately - light tone; it never goes so far as to acknowledge its origins, but it keeps up a vaguely tongue in cheek attitude throughout the movie.
Clue itself will never be regarded as a classic, but I found it to be fairly entertaining, largely due to the efforts of the wonderful cast.
Clue is delightful enough to warrant a rental, but the lackluster quality of the DVD means that I can't recommend anything more than that.

 Popcorn Talk: Clue (1985)
I remember when I was little thinking this movie was kind of scary, because it was set on dark and rainy night in a big house on a hill; oh yeah and everyone was getting murdered left and right.
"Clue" is a must see, I can some up the reason why it was such a funny movie in one answer....its an 80s movie...some of the best movies of all time are from the 1980s.
Although the film is set in the 1950s, the original Clue game was actually devised by Anthony Pratt, a clerk in Leeds, England, to pass the time during World War II air-raid drills.

 Clue (PG, 1985)
Only one was shown at a time when the movie was released in theaters, but on video we get all three of them, and as a result it becomes obvious to the viewer that the solution is completely arbitrary and that the clues that had accumulated thus far were ambiguous at best.
Basically, Clue is a great example of a movie that is hilariously entertaining if you just turn your brain off long enough to let yourself laugh at what's unfolding on the screen.
In fact, young sleuth wannabes with a weird sense of humor are perhaps the ideal audience for this movie.

Debra Hill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She entered the movie business in 1974 and was unhappy with the level of condescension she experienced because of her gender.
In 1988 she entered a contract with Walt Disney Pictures under which she produced Gross Anatomy, short films for the Walt Disney theme park and an NBC special for Disneyland's 35th anniversary.
She had a passion for not just movies about women or women's ideas, but films for everybody".

 Clue - Main
Clue is a comedy-mystery movie from 1985, loosely based off the famous Parker Brothers board game, Clue (amazing!).
Although the movie was not a critical success, it is certainly one of the best comedies from the 1980s.
Clue also has a very nice original music score written by John Morris II, who wrote the music for many other great movies including Dirty Dancing, Spaceballs, and Stella.

Clue (1985) is also mentioned in mino's review of Gosford Park (2001).
The main thing that makes the movie so great is the sterling performance from Tim Curry as the butler, Wadsworth (“I'm merely a humble butler.” “And what exactly do you do?” “I buttle, sir.”).
On cinematic release, each theatre was given a print with one or the other ending; a stroke of genius meaning that two people who had seen the movie at different theatres would have no idea what the hell was going on when they swapped notes.

Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), Clue is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs.
CLUE has gained a bit of notoriety over the years because it was the first time that Hollywood made a movie based upon a board game.
CLUE has a wonderful ensemble cast; with a cast that includes Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, and Christopher Lloyd one knows the film has to be at least half-way decent.

Clue Movie -The 80s Rewind «
Clue was released with three different endings and theatres would designate which version (A, B or C) was playing where.
Upon buying tickets for the movie, filmgoers were presented with detective notesheets - similar those used in the actual boardgame - that were checklists naming all the suspects, weapons and rooms where the crime could have happened.
The other rooms in the movie, such as the upstairs, basement, etc. were created on Stage 17.

From barf bags to 3D - Movie Gimmicks rule!
My experience with movie gimmicks is restricted to a few rather less-than-stellar examples: when I was a kid, I was somehow able to gain admission to the immortal classic of our time, 1978's Slithis, AKA Spawn Of The Slithis, and was awarded a "Slithis Survival Kit" in the lobby.
The kit consisted of a barf bag and a 5 X 7 xeroxed portrait of the unconvincing title beastie, which I was instructed to place under my pillow and PRAY TO (!) for protection.
Of course, there was 1985's board game-based Clue also, in which a single film to theatres with one of three different endings.

While the movie has some wonderfully entertaining moments, there are times when the jokes fall flat and the actors seem adrift at sea.
The movie is faithful to the game in its use of weaponry and the rooms, but while a board game is fun for those participating, watching it isn't quite as fun and that's probably what happened with the movie.
Though it will never happen, I think that CLUE should be remade, with an even better cast and a good script this time.
