Topic: Clue (film)

Babel: Sections: Film: Cinema Stardust: Critiques by Malcolm Lawrence
Suddenly film meant much more to me than it ever had, which I didn't think could happen because it already meant a lot to me. And it wasn't until years later that I realized the bountiful time I was growing up in and developing a love for film.
I personally think that from 1967 to 1982 was the golden age of cinema in the United States and perhaps for the rest of the world too, because it was during these years that the inmates were running the asylum, as it were.
A beautiful film, I have my own copy of it on videotape now, and I still think it's the most accurate depiction of childhood I've ever seen, let alone all the OTHER layers the film works on with the myth of Frankenstein, the reign of Francisco Franco and the state of Spain itself.

Clue (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clue is a 1985 Hollywood comedy film based on the board game Clue (also known as Cluedo).
The film uses the characters and murder mystery premise of the boardgame as the basis for a quickfire farce.
Clue, made in the 1980s, is set in the 1950s and makes frequent reference to the sociopolitical climate of the time.

 DVD Review: Clue
"Clue" isn't the greatest movie, but there are some funny moments from a solid cast who does good work with the material.
Sharpness is adequate, although the film sometimes looks the slightest bit on the soft side.
SOUND: "Clue" is definitely a "dialogue-driven" movie, and the main focus of the audio is the conversations between the characters.

 Clue: The Movie (1985)
Clue is a modest little piece that maintains a consistently - and appropriately - light tone; it never goes so far as to acknowledge its origins, but it keeps up a vaguely tongue in cheek attitude throughout the movie.
Clue itself will never be regarded as a classic, but I found it to be fairly entertaining, largely due to the efforts of the wonderful cast.
Clue is delightful enough to warrant a rental, but the lackluster quality of the DVD means that I can't recommend anything more than that.

Seventy-five percent of the theatres were therefore showing the same film, but not because it was drawing huge crowds: this was merely the best way, the powers that be deduced, for three separate versions of Clue, each with a different ending, to be projected with a minimum of hassle and simultaneously.
That Clue is contained on the recently pressed disc, along with every one of the theatrical versions, a novelty made possible by streaming branch technology.
Clue is one of the few titles the studio has chosen to not remaster in Dolby Digital 5.1.

 Metaphilm - Clue
Clue, in fact, is really about the most famous unsolved murder of the twentieth century—the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
The film is set in New England, where the Kennedy clan comes from and still largely resides, and because it opens in 1954, years before Kennedy emerged on the national scene, it gives viewers a grim preview of the events that would occur in nine years.
And indeed, the third ending of Clue ties up the loose ends nicely, dramatizing the now famous conspiracy theories of the Kennedy assassination by revealing the massive conspiracy at the heart of all of its murders.

 Chicago Reader Blogs: On Film
When I first saw the movie in September, at the Toronto International Film Festival, I was struck by how stylistically different it is from his previous works; De Palma met the challenge of shooting a high-definition video feature on a $5 million budget by radically reinventing his approach to storytelling.
At the Q and A following the first Toronto public screening, De Palma said he was inspired by a movie he'd seen at the festival the previous year, Bruno Dumont's Flanders, about the rape of a Middle Eastern woman by French soldiers and her revenge.
It's a film that never stops working, at a tightrope level of awareness, even when what it's working at—a musical tale of "peace and love" in the shadow of Vietnam, as refracted through the prism of 60s Beatles lyrics—is certifiably brain-dead.

The sets and costumes of the film are good but the way the film is shot still gives it a 80s feel.

The film has been out of circulation for nearly 40 years: Brando, who called it "too much of a word salad", didn't allow them show it.
The film shows the star, bombarded with a series of ever more inane questions from interviewers who have not even seen his movie, responding in bravura fashion.
He throws their questions back at them, flirts outrageously with the female journalists, holds forth on the plight of the Native American peoples and even enlists a pretty young passer-by to answer questions about the artist's responsibility to "speak out" on social issues.

Clue is Paramount Pictures' comedic film rendering of the classic Parker Brothers board game of the same name.

Get a Clue (2002) - A Review by David Nusair
Because Get a Clue was made for (and premiered on) The Disney Channel, it doesn't come as a huge surprise that the movie has virtually nothing to offer viewers over a certain age (that being around twelve or so).
The storyline - thin as it is - revolves around a New York City-based high school student named Lexy (Lohan) who stumbles upon an affair between two of her teachers, Mr.
The screenplay, by Alana Burgi Sanko, is devoid of anything even remotely approximating complexity, while the film's look (courtesy of director Maggie Greenwald) resembles a generic, family-friendly sitcom.

Ordinarily, a film based on a popular board game would not sound the most exciting of prospects, indeed it is the type of film that most sane people over the age of nine would go out of their way to avoid.
The film takes a playful approach to its subject matter and, as mentioned by several reviewers on here, the script sparkles with a disproportionate number of highly quotable, expertly delivered one liners.
The filming of three separate endings was an ingenious idea and it is worthwhile purchasing the DVD release version simply for the ability to choose to watch all three together, or to simply have one of them appear randomly at the end.
