Clumping bamboos are similar in growth habit to any shrub.
The most important characteristic of clump bamboos is that, unlike running bamboos, they do not spread by sending underground shoots far away from the main plant.

Clump -- say goodbye to Makefiles
The clump program compiles and links your C programs portably and intelligently so you don't have to fuss with makefiles.
For example, let's say you have this in one of your C files: #include The clump program needs to know that when a C file includes curses.h, the link command must have "-lcurses" on it so that the curses library is linked into the executable.
Other options are: clump -a Analyze the C files in the current directory, printing a detailed report showing all the header includes and exactly what needs to be recompiled and linked.

 Sloan Digital Sky Survey
ATLANTA -- A international team of astronomers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey collaboration has discovered a giant clump of stars near the Andromeda Galaxy that could be a previously unknown satellite galaxy of Andromeda or could be the last remnants of a galaxy torn apart by Andromeda's tidal forces.
The clump of stars, named Andromeda NE by the researchers for its location to the northeast of the Andromeda Galaxy, is enormous.
That means that the clump of stars is gravitationally bound to the Andromeda Galaxy, in orbit around its larger neighbor and possibly is in the process of being torn apart by Andromeda's tidal forces.

[106.05] Red Clump Stars - New, Improved Distance Indicator   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
To date the red clump method was used to measure accurate distances to the Galactic center (Paczynski & Stanek 1998), M31 (Stanek & Garnavich 1998a), LMC (Udalski et al.
As with all the distance indicators, the main worry lies in the possible systematics of the method, in this case its dependence on the stellar metallicity and age.
Using the HST archival data and the fact that M31 and M33, including their clusters, span a broad range of ages and metallicities, we will be able to determine the age and metallicity dependence of the red clump brightness directly.
