ClusterKnoppix is a live-CD distribution designed to be a plug-and-play cluster solution based on the Knoppix live-CD distribution.
The way ClusterKnoppix works is that you boot from the CD and configure a machine as the 'master' of the cluster.
ClusterKnoppix is actually pretty easy to get going if you have some knowledge of networking and know what you're doing.

When I knoppix-installed clusterKNOPPIX (based on KNOPPIX 3.4) on another 12 PCs on the same LAN, openmosixview would see all the nodes, but they did not thread properly.
I was travellig the last two weeks (which include a conference where I spoke about Quantian) and clusterKnoppix (based on Knoppix 3.4) was finally released just before that.
Both have problems when installed to hdd, Quantian 0.4.9.6, like clusterKnoppix 3.3, is based on the first version of 2.4.24-om kernel.

You will also need ClusterKnoppix (the latest version as of this writing is clusterKNOPPIX V3.4-2004-05-10-EN-cl).
ClusterKnoppix has the ability to sniff out drones as they boot on the network, but you need special LAN cards and a BIOS that supports booting over the network.
Because the cost of replicating CDs is minimal and you want X running on all the nodes, it's easiest to use as many ClusterKnoppix CDs as there are nodes in the cluster.

The pinnacle of success for any Single System Image (SSI) based cluster, should be the achievement of a global deployment on commodity x86 computing equipment; leveraging both the public communications infrastructure and existing capital equipment (personal computing) expenditure.
In this white paper we will explore the openMosix network architecture, network level risk mitigation techniques for the redeployment of organizational infrastructure in "open" clusters, a practical application of those techniques in the CHAOS and ClusterKnoppix Linux distributions, and proposals for extending both the security model and the flexibility of the openMosix architecture.
There is a somewhat conflicting interest between the security and manageability of a compact operating system and the need for a user friendly and fully featured operating system, in the cluster environment.
