		The Clutha River is the second longest river in New Zealand and flows south-southeast for 340 kilometres through Central and South Otago to the Pacific Ocean, 75 kilometres south west of Dunedin.
		Fifty kilometres south of Lake Wanaka, the Clutha reaches the town of Cromwell, which was substantially altered when the Clyde Dam project was completed in the late 1980s.
		This heavy flow, combined with the relatively small size of the river in global terms, makes the Clutha notoriously fast-flowing, and it is often listed as one of the world's most swiftly flowing rivers, alongside Australia's Macleay and Fitzroy Rivers, the Amazon and Atrato Rivers in South America, and the Teesta River in the Himalayas.

		Kaitangata is situated in the lower Clutha basin on the Matau branch of the Clutha River and 4 miles upstream from the mouth.

		According to the Collins Encylopedia (1974), Dresser designed these three vases, the tallest of which is 16 inches high, for J. Couper and Sons, Glasgow glass manufacturers who developed Clutha (or cloudy) glass around 1885.
		Dresser's designs for Clutha glass are especially featured in the anonymous Studio article on his work in 1899 (see bibliography).
		Clearly Dresser was as interested in the colouring of glass as he was in experimenting with glazes, he appears also to have been influenced by the colouring of Roman and Middle Eastern glass.

		The most popular spot for salmon fishing on the Clutha is downstream from Roxburgh Dam to Millers Flat near the main Road from Milton to Alexandra.
		At the top of the Clutha River catchment Otago’s three large glacial lakes — Wakatipu, Wanaka and Hawea — all support excellent mixed fisheries for brown and rainbow trout, and quinnat salmon.

		Mr Moffat was a native of Berwickshire, Scotland and was a well known resident of the Clutha, to which district he came over 30 years ago.
