I have already mentioned Pollock and Coalfish (Known locally as Liathe and Saithe) and these are abundant on the rocky shores but Orkney straddles the Atlantic and North Sea and the area supports many species of fish.
Pollock, Cod, Coalfish, Plaice, Red Cod, Ling, Conger, Mackerel, Garfish, Compa's (Scorpion fish) and unlisted species of Dog fish are all to be found around Stronsay with many other species going un-recorded.
The main difference was we caught less smaller Coalfish and we caught a higher average size of Pollock, Coalfish and Red Cod.

Went down to Kerry for the weekend.Went to Dingle harbour.Caught load's of fish e.g pollock,coalie's,scad and BIGGG conger smallest was around 8lb bigest was 39lb.The average was around 15lb.Local's were very surprised to say the least.If anyone has fished this hot spot please log on and tell us about it.
Went across to Portaferry on the ferry with the intention of catching sea trout, didn't contact any but we did catch mackerel, pollack and coalfish on the fly and lost some very powerful fish probably big pollack, there are thousands of small ones about 5 inches but plenty of pounders to keep you interested.
Caught plenty of small pollack, coalfish, dabs and the odd late whiting close in as the tide was flooding.

While in the area the Rosguill also fished 3 other wrecks and overall the fishing was stunning with a lot of fish - Ling to 17 pound, Pollack to over 10 pounds and Cod to 8 and half pounds - and another Torsk.
The Rosguill landed a 9 and quarter pound Turbot on 19 July on one of the offshore sand marks.
Fishing was fairly good for the 9 Northern Ireland anglers with 130 Pollack to 8 pounds(average 3), 60 Coalfish average one and half, 5 Ling to 9 pounds and a couple of Pouting.

I caught the coalfish (sei) in Kabelvag (Lofoten) at my friend Arnstein Larsen's place www.lofoten-rorbuferie.no the first week of august I was using a very thin rod a 12lbs ugly stik rod a zebco boca reel with 17/00 fireline grey line and a 80 gr.
The fish was hooked at 80 meters of water, but like a train it went to 110 meters and it was really the best fight with coalfish I ever have had.
It took me 29 minutes to land it That day I caught 9 coalfish of more than 15 kilo.
