The Freedom of Information Coalition places itself at the disposal of the Senate and of the Committee on Information to be available to provide any additional information or clarification that the Senate or the Committee may require towards the consideration and passage of the Bill.
For the implementation of a freedom of information legislation to be possible, members of the public must have a reasonable familiarity with the nature and types of information and records kept by different public bodies and authorities which would assist them in determining what public body or authority to approach for any record or information.
Most Freedom of Information laws around the world provide for decision-making on freedom of information at three levels namely, by the public authority or institution to which the original request is made, by an independent administrative body with specific powers in relation to freedom of information, and by the courts.

Since Britain did not, and still does not, have a Freedom of Information Law, Israel was slow to adopt one, and indeed, it was not until 1998 that the Freedom of Information Law passed.
Information policy was not part of the public agenda during these years, and such activity as occurred, both legislative and judicial, does not indicate an attempt to reach a comprehensive information policy, but rather point to a piecemeal approach addressing immediate needs as they arise.
The mechanism for disseminating information to the public, mandated by the Freedom of Information Law, is laid out in an administrative report by a Knesset subcommittee.

A Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press analysis of Freedom of Information Act request fulfillment found that Government Accountability Office reports may be misleading because it does not distinguish between FOIA requests from individuals seeking personal information and requests for information about government activities and operations.
The Information Security Oversight Office reported to the president that automatic declassification of 25-year-old documents from the executive branch is generally on target to meet its goal of implementation by Dec. 31, 2006, although "a handful of agencies still remain at risk of not meeting this requirement."
The Senate Judiciary Committee on June 9, 2005 cleared legislation designed to ensure that future exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act be "stated explicitly within the text of the bill." The measure is identical to section 8 of the OPEN Government Act of 2005, introduced earlier this year; both measures are co-sponsored by Sens.

Scores of volunteers participating in a November audit by the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition fanned out across all 16 counties, visiting 74 police departments, 157 municipal offices and 79 school districts.
The audit was conducted by the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition, made up of news media, public interest, academic, government and private organizations with an interest in protecting access to public information.
Such fees may be legal but the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition deemed $8 for the first page of a document to be "excessive." Portland attorney Jonathan S. Piper, one of the state's leading authorities on First Amendment rights, agreed.

 Cape fares well in Freedom of Information audit
Cape Elizabeth fared well in the recent Freedom of Information audit conducted by the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition.
At the appropriate office, volunteers were instructed to ask to view a copy of a copy of the daily police log; an expense report for the chief elected official; and, a copy of the school superintendent's contract.
However, Police Chief Neil Williams clarified that the volunteer auditor, who had asked to see the the telephone log for the previous 24 hours, was asked to fill out a request for the information in writing, which he said is proper under the Freedom of Information legislation.

Using a grant supplied by the National Freedom Of Information Coalition, FOI Oklahoma has caused the setting up of books and other documents relating to the First Amendment at five libraries across the state.
