Coastal Carolina University is an independent public university in Conway, South Carolina near the popular resort and retirement area of Myrtle Beach.
In 1961 the school was placed under state control and renamed the Coastal Carolina Campus of the University of South Carolina and construction began on a campus on land donated by local timber companies.
The school became a four-year institution in 1974 and was renamed Coastal Carolina College of the University of South Carolina.

CCU has the ability to produce some fine scientists and writers.
