Coat of Arms motto - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about Coat of Arms motto   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-20)
The surface of the shield is called the field, and coats of arms are distinguished not only by their charges, but also by the colouring of this field, which represents a combination of metals, tinctures (colours), or furs.
The misuse of another's arms was equivalent to forgery, so in order to be certain of acting correctly, it became the practice to consult the heralds, as specialists in the science; and eventually the principal heralds, called kings-of-arms, came to control all heraldic matters under the marshals who derived their authority from the crown.
In England the College of Arms continues to exercise its function; in Scotland the equivalent body is the Court of the Lord Lyon.

Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade (COAT)
By 1999, COAT's concept of conversion had evolved to include social, legal, psychological and economic factors essential to the transition from a world based on war, greed, deception and violence, where "might is right," to a world based on peace, justice, truth, human rights and nonviolence.
This issue of COAT's magazine provides shocking evidence showing that Prescott Bush and George H.Walker were the financial managers of well-organised American effort to funnel the investments of right-wing U.S. bankers and industrialists into Germany which funded the rise to power of the Nazi Party and Adolph Hitler.
This annual research report by COAT juxtaposes evidence from a variety of sources to demonstrate Canada's complicity in international war crimes and crimes against humanity.
