Colin Powell, the US secretary of state, has commemorated his Scottish roots by having a coat of arms commissioned by Scotland's heraldic authority.
Arms cannot be given directly to those who are not British subjects so Mr Powell applied for the coat of arms on behalf of his father, who was brought up in Jamaica.
Luther Theophilus Powell was born in Jamaica in 1901 and is eligible for arms through the island's membership of the Commonwealth.
