2 similar coats of arms exist for the name Jacomb, one of which is known to date from the late 1600s.
Arms were the property of an individual, not a family or name group and can only be granted (in England) by the College of Arms in London at a not inconsiderable sum of money.
The individuals to whom these Jacomb arms were granted must have been of a sufficient status to desire arms and be able to afford their aquisition in the first place.

egardless of their origins, coats of arms became military status symbols, and their popularity increased along with the popularity of the tournament, which was developed in the mid-eleventh century in France.
By 1400 A.D., bearing a coat of arms had become a prerequisite to participation in a tournament, and due to the importance of social standing in such pageants, a coat of arms also became a mark of noble status.
Though many people think that coats-of arms were granted only to nobility, they can actually be found for more than ninety percent of all names.

In a 1923 banknote I’ve found what seems to be a red flag with a five pointed star belonging to the Federation of Socialist Soviet Republics of Transcaucasia, flown on top of a bulding (perhaps the Soviet) in Erevan (?).
I have found a picture of the arms of the ZSFSR (again on a banknote): a five-pointed star with ornamental design (similar to the present Georgian arms), in the center a mountain range with three peaks (the 3 republics?), plus sunburst and hammer&sickle.
In the reverse of a 1923 banknote there is the coat of arms of the FSSRT which seems to have been used until 1924, when it became the Transcaucasian Socialist Federal Soviet Republic (TCFSR).
