Topic: Brisbane Coat of Arms

 [No title]
The oldest representation of these Arms appears on a wooden chair (Still in existence) dated 1357 and believed to have belonged to William Brisbane who was made Chancellor of Scotland in 1332.
At one time these arms were known to have a Gold Medal Hanging Between the two top Cushions, but as the line of General Sir Thomas Brisbane 'who received the medal from the King' died out, it does not seem appropriate to use it.
Interestingly, many members of the family "Brisbin" in America have asked for details of this coat of arms, but it seems that their name originated during the American war of Independence when two rebel sons wishing to differentiate themselves from their British father, changed the spelling and went to war against their own heritage.

  City of Brisbane (Queensland, Australia)
Brisbane is the capital city of the state of Queensland, situated on the Brisbane River on the south-east coast of the state.
The flag of Brisbane is based on the armorial bearings and coat of arms of the city: Blue and gold are the colours of Brisbane.
Interestingly, the flag is not a banner of arms, as the Coat of Arms does not have 6 quarters, but rather a blue chief nebuly, as described in the text, bearing not two knots and a mullet, but two mullets and a knot.

 coat of arms
Coat of arms were developed in the Middle Ages as a means of identifying warriors in battle and tournaments.
The word "heraldry" is associated with Coat of Arms due to the role of the "herald" in recording the blazons, and comes from a common practice at a medieval sporting event.
Younger sons may use a version of their father's arms, but the rules of heraldry say that they must be changed ("differenced") somewhat.

It was intended to update the coat of arms from the original 1906 to the 1912 design which was correctly placed on the 1934 issue of notes.
The new coat of arms did not appear in its correct form until the release of the 50 cent piece in 1966.

 Gloria Bava - Interview
We talked about the coats, and she drew on the fl drill with chalk where she wanted seams put in and described what sort of collar she was after, because we hadn’t refined that yet, Kym wasn’t quite sure.
Upon seeing the initial coat she could draw in the seams and say, "I want the skirt part a bit fuller, the waist a bit more nipped in, and the shoulders a bit broader, we need to have gussets under the arms…" things like that, construction details.
That coat had the removable sleeve because they wanted to rehearse the scene over and over – the shooting part of the scene – so they had a whole lot of sleeves they could put back in to replace the sleeves torn by squibs.
