One only has to look at the flags of nations such as Canada, Jamaica, and Papua New Guinea, that still retain the British monarch as their head of state, to explode this myth.
A shame the image is not on more of Australia's prime symbols, such as the coat of arms and the national flag.
The only other independent countries with the British monarch as their head of state and with the Union Jack as part of their national flags are New Zealand and Tuvalu.
