Although it is common to use the terms "Taiwan" and "Republic of China" synonymously, Taiwan is still technicially administered as a province of the Republic of China and the ROC government also has jurisdiction over two counties of Fujian province.
The Republic of China, as one of its founding members was in the United Nations and held China's seat on the Security Council until 1971, when it was expelled by General Assembly Resolution Resolution 2758 and replaced in all UN organs with the People's Republic of China government.
The Republic of China currently has jurisdiction over two of the historic provinces of China: the entire Taiwan province and several islands near the mainland, chiefly Quemoy and Matsu, that are part of Fujian province.

Heraldry in Ireland   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Heraldry is the study and description ('blazoning') of coats of arms, and of the rights of individuals and families to bear arms.
The main non-military use of arms was on seals, as a means of proving the authenticity of documents, and the practice of using birds or animals to fill empty space around the arms on these seals gave rise to 'supporters', now regarded as part of the arms of peers.
In particular, most of the arms were regarded as the property of the sept (defined by Dr Edward MacLysaght as 'a group of persons inhabiting the same locality and bearing the same surname'), rather than being strictly hereditary within a single family, as was and is the case under English and Scottish heraldic law.

The imperial system in China ended with the establishment of the Republic of China (ROC) under Sun Yat-sen in 1912; however, the next four decades of ROC rule were marred by warlord control, the Second Sino-Japanese War (WWII), and the Chinese Civil War which pitted Chinese Nationalists against the Communist forces.
In 1912, after a prolonged period of decline, the institution of the Emperor of China disappeared and the Republic of China was established.
China is composed of a vast variety of highly different landscapes, with mostly plateaus and mountains in the west, and lower lands on the east.

SWET, SWETE, SWETT COAT OF ARMS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Oliver's History of Antigua (1899) describes the coat of arms on this memorial as: "Gules, two chevronels between in chief two mullets argent, pierced of the field, and in base a rose of the second" in which "pierced of the field" means the stars on the shield were pierced red.
The coat of arms of this family was printed in the seventh volume of the New England Historic-Genealogical Register, as though it belonged to the Swett or Sweat family.
Therefore, although this coat of arms without a crest is not officially recognized by the College of Arms, it represents a family tradition that predates the grant of arms and crest to Guy Swete in 1473.
