		Cob is a building material consisting of clay, sand, straw, water, and earth.
		Cob is fireproof, resistant to seismic activity, and inexpensive.
		Cob has many similarities to the adobe associated with Mexico and the southwestern United States, but whereas adobe is formed into bricks which are then stacked into a wall system, cob is sculpted from the foundation up.

		Adobe bricks are a further refinement of the cob process in that the whole structure can be made before assembling, instead of having to wait long periods of time for each layer of the cob to dry, but lose some structural stability and creative shapes.
		Cob was one of the primary methods used in building construction for all social classes up until the early 1800's, when industrialization allowed fired bricks to become readily available for the richer classes.
		Cob was most popular in Southwestern Britain and Wales because of the local materials; wood is more scarce and the soil is a sandy clay, the perfect type to use in cob.

		This is not entirely true, the code does not specify what is allowed, rather it specifies what structural, insulation, electrical and plumbing requirements must be met (the general case) and what materials and approaches are pre-approved.
		Of course anything done on an agricultural permit you are not supposed to live in, but it might allow you to build structures other than your house on the site.
		This will hopefully allow me to at least do part of the building work on the site completely in accordance with my plans, and will give them something to look at when I hit them with an application for a residential structure building permit.
