FIONA REYNOLDS: Cobar miners and their families camped on the Parliament House lawns 18 months ago, pleading with the Federal Government to intervene when Ashanti shut down the copper operation, claiming insolvency.

The Australian Securities and Investment Commission, who were the liquidators of the Cobar mine, struck a settlement with Ashanti to pay the workers out.
