The origins of SUNY Cobleskill's University Police began in 1963 with the establishment of "Institutional Safety Officers" as a job title within the State of New York.
Officers were required to possess the equivalent of an associate's degree, which at that time, was the highest educational requirement for law enforcement officers in the state.
In addition to attending these training sessions, several members of the Cobleskill staff have served on the Academy staff, serving as teaching assistants and teaching such subjects as Laws of Evidence, First Aid, First Responder and Police Stress Management courses.
