Coccydynia is persistent, severe pain in the coccyx.
Coccydynia causes discomfort when sitting, as well as when lying flat because of the pressure these positions place on the tailbone.
The treatment plan for coccydynia depends upon many factors, such as the severity of the dysfunction and pain, the type and location of the pain, as well as patient’s age, ongoing medical conditions, and ability to tolerate other medical therapies.

Coccydynia is often relatively severe and persistent, causing significant compromise of the patient's quality of life.
Alternatively, patients with coccydynia may sit leaning toward one side so that the body weight is exerted mainly on one ischial tuberosity or the other, with less pressure on the coccyx.
Patients with coccydynia often report frustration with physicians who minimize their symptoms or tell them that the pain is "all in their head." However, behavioral assessments of patients with coccydynia have shown a psychological profile similar to that of any other group of patients, ie, without any increased evidence of overt psychopathology (Wray, 1991).

The risk of post-traumatic coccydynia was a function of the degree of pelvic rotation.
In this prospective study, eight of 30 patients had posterior subdislocation of the coccyx which caused pain and was visible only on the films taken in the sitting position.

The coccydynia was diagnosed several months after the incident; however, Thornberg's claim was submitted and adjudicated as a single occurrence case which arose out of that incident.
My opinion is that his coccy[]dynia, which was mentioned for the first time approximately May 4th, 1994, was remote from the event that happened that's described when he drove over the bump.

Although painful sitting is the most common complaint, coccydynia is also often associated with sciatica, sacral pain, low back pain, painful bowel movements, constipation, or general pelvic pain.

The coccyx is a common insertion point for the muscles that form the floor of the pelvis (kegel muscles) and if it is in the wrong place or is too mobile, there will be uneven and abnormal amount tension to these muscles.
