Mr Vedprakash P. Goyal, Union Minister for Shipping, and Mr R. Muthu, President, SICCI, at a meeting on `Strategies for development of port infrastructure to boost international trade' in Chennai on Sunday.
The Minister said that a few days ago he had written to all the port trust chairmen seeking a detailed report on road connectivity between the ports and the national highways.

According to sources, the first contract covers assessment of the entire ship’s design and responsibility for ‘propulsion system integration’ in addition to providing assistance to the shipyard during installation of the engines.
After Russians, it is the turn of Italians to take part in the design and construction of an aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy.

Fincantieri will be involved with India's Cochin Shipyard in providing design and other assistance during the construction of the new carrier at the Indian yard in Cochin.
Fincantieri's ability to cross utilise its dual experience in building merchant vessels and Navy ships is considered its key strength.
The building contracts are expected to cover two years, but Fincantieri said it will provide assistance to the Indian yard until the trials and delivery have taken place by end 2009.

MILAN -(Dow Jones)- Italian state-owned shipbuilder Fincantieri SpA said Wednesday it has signed two contracts with the Cochin shipyard in India to help build a new aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy.

Asked about the British-origin Sea Harrier fighter jets that operate from on board INS Viraat, he said that once INS Viraat is decommissioned, these aircraft would operate from Admiral Gorshkov and for this purpose, a ski-jump would be added onto the flight deck of the over 40,000-tonne carrier.
