  Action plan for Cochlearia scotica
Its importance as a distinct variant of a commoner species should otherwise be recognised in the protection and management of the sites on which it occurs.
The following LBAPs are working on Cochlearia scotica:

Scurvy-grass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The leaves are smoothly rounded, roughly spoon-shaped (the scientific name Cochlearia derives from Latin cochlea, a spoon), or in some species, lobed; typically 1-5 cm long, and with a fleshy texture.
Scurvy-grass was extensively eaten in the past by sailors suffering from scurvy after returning from long voyages, as the leaves are rich in vitamin C, which cures this deficiency disease resulting from a lack of fresh vegetables in the diet.
The scurvy-grass seeds become trapped on car wheels, transported often for a considerable distance, and then washed off, to grow in the salt-rich soil at the side of the road where other plants cannot survive.

 Delimitation of Chinese Brassicaceae
Species of Cochlearia are distributed in the arctic, subarctic, and northern latitudes of the northern temperate region, and they most commonly grow in coastal habitats, mountain streamsides, sandy beaches, seashore rock crevices, gravel bars, alpine habitats, saltmarshes, saline meadows, and calcareous screes (Pobedimova 1969, 1970; Rollins, 1993; Jackson and Akeroyd, 1993).
Cochlearia consists of usually glabrous and glaucous small plants with ± fleshy, simple, entire to dentate leaves, erect petals and stamens, inflated but somewhat angustiseptate (flattened at a right angle to the septum) fruits, prominently 1-veined valves, often biseriate tuberculate seeds, and accumbent or rarely incumbent cotyledons.

Horseradish - Cochlearia Armoracia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Hooker considers that it is possibly a cultivated form of Cochlearia macrocarpa, a native of Hungary; other authorities consider it indigenous to the eastern parts of Europe, from the Caspian and through Russia and Poland to Finland.
The root was included in the Materia Medica of the London Pharmacopoeias of the eighteenth century, under the name of R. rusticanus, the same name Gerard gave it.
Its present botanical name, Cochlearia Armoracia, was given it by Linnaeus, Cochleare being the name of an old-fashioned spoon to which its long leaves are supposed to bear a resemblance.

Scottish scurvygrass - Cochlearia officinalis subsp. scotica - ARKive   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
It was, at one point, held to be a species its own right; at present, however, it is thought to be a subspecies of common scurvygrass (Cochlearia officinalis) which is endemic to the British isles.
This confusion arises because as a group, the scurvygrasses are highly variable in response to environmental stresses.
Until further research is carried out into the taxonomy of Scottish scurvygrass, and the current mystery resolved, it is widely treated as a subspecies of common scurvygrass Cochlearia officinalis scotica.
