News Article - Inside Gymnastics Magazine
After four days of meetings in Zurich, Switzerland, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) reports they are close to finalizing a revolutionary new Code of Points that will change the face of gymnastics.
(Rhythmic gymnastics uses a similar system, dividing their score into three parts—technical, artistic and execution—each worth 10 points, for a potential score of 30.)
While the Code changes detailed above have yet to be finalized, and can not be until ratified by the FIG governing body as a whole, the changes would mark a new era in gymnastics.

 Articles - Artistic gymnastics
Artistic gymnastics is one of the most popular spectator sports at the Summer Olympic Games, although it is not a particularly popular participant sport, as performing at even a basic level requires very high levels of fitness and skill which take more training than many people are prepared to commit.
A gymnast's routine was marked out of a 10 if the gymnast had enough difficulty (the amount of difficulty that the gymnast had to have varied from Code to Code - in the 2001 - 2005 Code of Points, gymnasts needed 1.2 bonus to start from a 10) and fulfilled certain difficulty requirements.
However, the discipline of general gymnastics is geared more towards participation for fun and fitness, rather than competition, and attracts a respectable number of participants including retired gymnasts.
