On a mac the unicode shows up, (even without setting the font _sans works) but the unicode text seems to be shifted down and the - and _ chars are vertically aligned, the other characters are moved down so that the top is aligned with the - and _ chars.
Code2000 is not a standard, preinstalled MAC OS Font.

In the modern Latin alphabet (Czech language and the common scientific transliteration for old Slavic languages) the letter is represented by "e with caron": Unicode, Arial Unicode MS, Bitstream Cyberbit, Bitstream CyberBase, Bitstream Vera, Gentium, GentiumAlt, Lucida Sans Unicode, Visual Geez Unicode; font-family /**/:inherit;">ě.
That the sound represented by yat developed late in the history of Common Slavonic is indicated by its role in the second palatalization of the Slavonic velars.
It is significant that from the earliest texts, there is considerable confusion between the yat and the iotified a (Cyrillic Unicode, Arial Unicode MS, Bitstream Cyberbit, Bitstream CyberBase, Bitstream Vera, Gentium, GentiumAlt, Lucida Sans Unicode, Visual Geez Unicode; font-family /**/:inherit;">ıа).

Easiest: If you have Arial Unicode MS (supplied with Microsoft Office 2000, FrontPage 2000, Office XP, and Publisher 2002) or Code2000 (free download, $5 honour-system registration), you should be OK for most languages on our pages.
(Note: Code2000 is not recommended for Chinese Simplified or Traditional, or for Japanese, and Arial Unicode MS is not recommended for Lao), but anyone who can read them probably already has appropriate fonts on their computer.)
In other words, to "see" everything on our pages almost exactly the way we intended, you only need to download and install IE (unless you already have it) and at most, four or five fonts.
