The sandstone for the ornamentations on the Harrisburg Court House was quarried in the township.
The township location was ideal for the tanning industry because hides could be obtained from nearby butchers and dehaired with the lime from the West Manchester Township Lime kilns.
One of the other geologic formations found in the township is alluvium which is present in the flood plains of all of the larger streams in the county but has been mapped only along the Susquehanna River, the Codorus and Conewago Creeks.

Brady is one of the border townships of the county, situated north of the Juniata River.
West and northwest is the township of Henderson, and on the north is Miller township.
The ore was chiefly brought from Franklin township by canal and later by railroad, although a quantity of the fossil ores found in Brady were combined with them, producing a metal which had a most excellent reputation among manufacturers, and which was used to a large extent to produce imitation Russia sheet iron.

Pennsylvania has agreed with other states in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to reduce the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus entering the Susquehanna River (which is the largest tributary to the Chesapeake Bay) by 40 percent by the year 2000.
Pennsylvania is only now developing a permitting process for factory farms in compliance with the Clean Water Act.
