Coffey County (standard abbreviation: CF) is a county located in the state of Kansas.
In the county the population is spread out with 26.80% under the age of 18, 6.50% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.20% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $37,839, and the median income for a family is $44,912.

Coffey County lies in longitude eighteen west from Washington and in eight-eight north latitude.
It is bounded on the north by Osage County, on the east by Franklin and Anderson counties, on the south by Woodson County, and on the west by Lyon and Greenwood counties.
The Neosho River enters the county from the west, eight miles from the northern boundary and nineteen miles from the southern boundary, and runs southeast, leaving the county and entering Woodson on the south, five miles west of eastern boundary line and nineteen miles from western.

Coffey served as treasurer of the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad, later moved to Missouri and was appointed Indian agent by President Filmore.
The Coffey family, which is widely scattered through the southeastern states, traces its ancestry to John Coffey, who emigrated from Ireland to Virginia in 1637, and the ancient Irish family from which John Coffey came is said to be descended from Milesius, King of Spain, through the line of Heremon, his eighth son.
James Coffey and his family made their home in Amherst County, Virginia, from 1764 until 1776, when he sold his plantation on Tye River and moved to North Carolina, settling in that part of Surry County which was formed in Wilkes.

Richard (Uncle Rich) Coffey, pioneer rancher, Indian fighter, and teamster in the lower Concho River valley, was born in Georgia on February 14, 1823.
Coffey became a successful rancher but lost over 1,000 cattle and fifty-four horses to a band of Comanche Indians who attacked a group of Coffey's cattle drivers in 1871.
Coffey was a Baptist and a charter member of Masonic lodges in Brownwood, Coleman, and Paint Rock.
