  Tristam Coffin
Tristram was the eldest son of Peter Coffin and his wife Joan Kember, and was born at Brixton, a parish near Plymouth in Devon; he was baptised on 11 March 1610.
Tristram may have inherited some property from his father, as he was the executor both of Peter and of his uncle John, whose will was proved in 1628.
However, James Coffin, the third son, was allotted land bounded on the west by the common, and on the south by the lot of Nathaniel Starbuck.

Our Coffin line in America was founded by Tristram Coffin (Coffyn as he always signed his name), who was born in Brixton, a small parish and village, near Plymouth, in the southwestern part of Devonshire County England, in the year 1605.
Tristram returned to the island with his family in 1660 where he was Chief Magistrate 1671 and Commissioner in 1675.
The property of his son, Peter who was living in New Hampshire, is said to have soon after exceeded in value that of the original proprietor, the family together owning about one-quarter of the island and the whole of Tuckernock.

Robert P. Coffin was born at 26 College Street on March 18, l892, in Brunswick, Maine, the son of Alice Coombs Coffin and James William Coffin.
Coffin was graduated from Bowdoin College in June, l915 with the highest rank in the class--Summa Cum Laude.
R.P.T. Coffin died in 1955 and is buried alongside his wife Ruth and daughter Peggy in Cranberryhorn cemetery in Harpswell, Maine.

Robert P.T. Coffin (1892-1955), writer, professor and Pulitzer Prize winning poet, was born and educated in Brunswick, Maine.
Coffin began his teaching career as instructor and, later, professor of English at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. (1921-1934), where he ran the English honors course.
Coffin is best known as a writer of more than three dozen works of prose, poetry and history, and as the winner of the 1936 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book, Strange Holiness.
