Toss Out the Toss-Up: Bias in heads-or-tails: Science News Online, Feb. 28, 2004
A new mathematical analysis suggests that coin tossing is inherently biased: A coin is more likely to land on the same face it started out on.
Every other possible toss is biased, according to an analysis described on Feb. 14 in Seattle at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Keller observes, "Some people can throw the coin up so that it just wobbles but looks to the observer as if it is turning over." To see whether the predicted bias shows up in actual coin tosses, the team made movies of tossed coins and then calculated the axes of spin.

When we toss a coin, the probability that it will land heads up on any given coin toss is 0.5 or 50%, and the same of landing tails.
So if we toss the coin 10 times, we would expect that the result will be 5 heads and 5 tails.
In other words, the outcome of the next toss is unaffected by previous coin tosses, as the coin has no memory retention.

Coin Tossing: Interesting Thing of the Day
However, it turns out that when it comes to humans tossing coins, it really is a matter of uncertainty and inaccuracy rather than true randomness.
Keller showed mathematically that the only way to obtain a truly random coin toss is to make sure it spins around its exact geometrical axis, something no human could do with the necessary precision.
If the coin is allowed to hit the ground, other variables come into play, and the likelihood of a different result increases.

Called "Coin Toss" by The_undead, its developer, you can use it to replace the standard currency you'd normally flip into the air for questions an either/or type of answer.
One thing noted on the forums is that you can invalidate the findings to a certain extent because holding onto the trigger that activates the toss keeps the coin spinning indefinitely.
There's also no option for the coin to stand on its end, and there isn't a quirk in the system that'll force Sadako to replace the coin and scare the daylights out of unsuspecting folks when they least expect it.
