Cold mirror - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A cold mirror is a specialized dielectric mirror, a dichromatic interference filter that operates over a very wide temperature range to reflect the entire visible light spectrum while very efficiently transmitting infrared wavelengths.
Similar to hot mirrors, cold mirrors can be designed for an incidence angle ranging between zero and 45 degrees, and are constructed with multi-layer dielectric coatings, in a manner similar to interference filters.
Cold mirrors can be employed as dichromatic beamsplitters with laser systems to reflect visible light wavelengths while transmitting infrared.

Mirror - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
In a plane mirror, a parallel beam of light changes its direction as a whole, whilst still remaining parallel; the images formed by a plane mirror are virtual images, of the same size as the original object (see mirror image).
A cold mirror is made by using a transparent substrate and choosing a coating material that is more reflective to visible light and more transmissive to infrared light.
Mirror surfaces are sometimes given thin film overcoatings both to retard degradation of the surface and to increase their reflectivity in parts of the spectrum where they will be used.

Hot mirror - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A hot mirror is a specialized dielectric mirror, a dichromatic interference filter often employed to protect optical systems by reflecting heat back into the light source.
Hot mirrors can be designed to be inserted into the optical system at an incidence angle varying between zero and 45 degrees, and are useful in a variety of applications where heat build-up can damage components or adversely affect spectral characteristics of the illumination source.
By transmitting visible light wavelengths while reflecting infrared, hot mirrors can also serve as dichromatic beam splitters for specialized applications in fluorescence microscopy.

 UV Cold Mirrors
TFL UV cold mirrors are extremely effective at increasing the amount of UV energy at the irradiation zone while simultaneously significantly reducing the visible and infrared energy.
Hot mirrors act on both direct and reflected radiation, but since they are less efficient than cold mirrors, cold mirrors are almost always used for systems that require relatively low temperatures at the irradiation zone.
The cold mirror does not utilize an absorber, since the visible and infrared radiation is transmitted through the turning mirror.

Both the focal ratio converter mirror and the cold stop mirror are deeply buried in an aluminum housing.
The filters are carried as near as possible to the cold stop to maximize the beam footprint through the filters and prevent point defects in the filters from skewing the bandpass to any one point in the spectrograph field.
All the mirrors are spherical with a radius of 60.834 mm.

Laser mirrors, dichroic, cold and hot mirrors, other thin-film coated mirrors
Laser mirrors are formed as low-absorption multilayer dielectric coatings on the surfaces of YAG, Nd-glass, ruby, alexandrite, and other solid-state laser materials, or on the surfaces of other laser optical elements.
A cold mirror solves this problem neatly: it reflects the visible light but passes nearly all of the harmful infrared light through, as indicated in Fig.
These mirrors have passed heat and quick- cooling tests as specified by the Japanese Industrial Standards, and have proved superior to rear-silvered, protected mirrors and front aluminized mirrors in tests of resistance to water, acids, alkalis and salt water.

COLD MIRRORS are the second filter type for separating heat from light energy.
Cold mirrors are generally placed at an angle to the light path in the system.
When the energy from the light source strikes the cold mirror, the light energy is reflected into the system while the heat energy is allowed to pass through.

In the case of the Cold Mirror, the visible component is reflected, while the heat portion is transmitted.
Deposited onto heat resistant glass, the cold mirror will withstand operation at temperatures covering the range -150 degrees Celcius to +300 degrees Celcius.

Cold Mirror Installation - DIY Projector Company (DPC)
In order to mount the mirror to the wood, sandwich the mirror between the two strips, then put screws through the wood as shown in the picture.
You should now be able to slide/wiggle the mirror so that it is centered with just the edge of the mirror covered by the wood mount.
Now that you have your mirror in a frame, you can put it anywhere in your projector by using wood glue or screws/bolts, though metal fasteners are preferred since the heat and UV radiation that may come from your lamp could eventually break the glue, causing the mirror the fall and/or break.

Hot and cold mirrors are used to separate the infrared radiation (heat) from the visible part of the spectrum.
These mirrors are extensively used in optical systems which are temperature sensitive, since most of the incident energy is either transmitted of reflected with minimal absorption.

Montreal Mirror - Film : Cold Creek Manor
After exercising his experimental side with The Loss of Sexual Innocence, Timecode, and Hotel, Brit director Mike Figgis's latest, Cold Creek Manor, is a more-or-less straightforward Hollywood thriller.
Cold Creek Manor (which he also scored) is a decent suspenser, though it doesn't add up to much, with a good setup marred by a so-so payoff.
For some reason that's never totally explained (besides the fact that the bank foreclosed on the manor's previous owners), the place comes with every possession and personal effect of the family who last lived there, which makes it even more creepy.
