Cold open - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A cold open (also referred to as a teaser) in a television program or movie is the technique of jumping directly into a story at the beginning or opening of the show, before the title sequence or opening credits are shown.
While several soaps experimented with regular opens in the early 2000s, all are currently using cold opens.
Cold opens are also fairly common in Japanese animation (anime).

 Common Cold
Most colds are caused by rhinoviruses (the name comes from "rhin," the Greek word for nose) that are in invisible droplets in the air we breathe or on things we touch.
The first symptoms of a cold are often a tickle in the throat, a runny or stuffy nose, and sneezing.
Colds are most contagious during the first 2 to 4 days after symptoms appear, and may be contagious for up to 3 weeks.

The causes of 30 to 50 percent of adult colds, presumed to be viral, remain unidentified.
The relative importance of various viruses in pediatric colds, however, is unclear because it's difficult to isolate the precise cause of symptoms in studies of children with colds.

Technically, the Cold Open is a transition form of the old Teaser...and is handled the same way.
I believe that "Frasier" calls its opening sequences "Act One, Scene One." I've also seen some "NewsRadio" scripts where the teaser is just called "Act One, Scene A," even though it leads into a title sequence.
I referred to the actual produced scripts of FRASIER (cold open, which it called Act One, Scene 1) and the late lamented NEWSRADIO (which called the teaser "Act One, scene A").
