Colebrook is the Waypoint community for an area that includes Pittsburg, Clarksville, Stewartstown, Dixville, Columbia, and Stratford, NH, and Canaan, Lemington, and Bloomfield, VT. Its visitor center is located on a scenic bend of the Connecticut on Route 3, 1.5 miles north of Colebrook's downtown.
Colebrook and Pittsburg serve as the provisioners for recreation in the backcountry.
Colebrook is proud of its numerous, if small, restaurants, and the church suppers and high school concerts and plays that take the place of movies and theaters.

Settlement began in 1765, and the town was incorporated in 1779.
On the west is the Jonathan Edwards House, built about 1767, and occupied by Jonathan Edwards, Jr., son of the famous divine, who the first minister of the church (1795-99) leaving to become president of Union College.
At North Colebrook there are two good houses: The Carrington Phelps House on our left, and the Dr. Jesse Carrington House of 1804 a little farther on our right.

 Lorrin Alanson Cooke, Governor of Connecticut
Cooke's election to the Connecticut General Assembly as the representative from the Town of Colebrook took place in 1856, when he was only 25 years old.
He was elected President Pro Tempore of the Connecticut Senate in 1884 and was said to preside with "fairness and dignity." His increased responsibilities included the chairmanship of the committee on engrossed bills, which made sure that bills originating from the Senate had fulfilled all legal and technical requirements.
Connecticut's finances did well under his guidance, even though the Spanish-American War required the state government to share the costs of that conflict with the federal government.
