Colette Besson (born April 7, 1946 in Royan - died August 9, 2005 in La Rochelle) was a former French athlete, the surprise winner of the 400 m at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Prior to the 1968 Olympics, Besson was virtually unknown, and the fact that she qualified for the 400 m could already be considered a surprise.
She qualified for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, but was eliminated in the preliminaries, although she took fourth place in the relay.

Besson, then a 22-year-old physical education teacher from Bordeaux, beat favourite Lillian Board of Britain with a furious sprint over the last 100 metres.
Besson's cancer was diagnosed when Paris was hosting the world championships in 2003, said Bernard Amsalem, president of the French Athletics Federation.

Besson claimed the Olympic 400m title in 1968 at the tender age of 22 in an amazing race, when she went from fifth to first in the last 100m to beat favourite Lillian Board, by a 10th of a second.
