  Nebraska National Register Sites in Colfax County
Built in 1921-22, the Colfax County Courthouse is a Second Renaissance Revival style building, which is an important landmark to the city of Schuyler and the county.
John Janecek emigrated to the United States from Bohemia in 1870 and settled in Colfax County in 1873.
He was best known in Schuyler as the builder and proprietor of the Janecek Opera House, the hub of social activity in the county around the turn of the century.

 Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska - Colfax Co. - Part 4
He was elected County Commissioner and served three years, at the end of which time or in the fall of 1875, was elected County Treasurer; was re-elected in the fall of 1877, serving four years.
Was born in Douglas County, Ill., October 3, 1847, where he lived until 1866, being raised on a farm, he went to Marshall County, Iowa, December, 1865 and engaged in farming a number of years;, removed to his native place in Illinois and lived a year; then to Nebraska.
Wells came to Nebraska in fall of 1869, and remained in Omaha until March 1, 1870, when he settled in Schuyler, and engaged in photographing; also took a homestead on which he made valuable improvements, etc. He was elected Sheriff in fall of 1871, and re-elected in fall of 1873, serving four years.

PPRI was incorporated on April 29, held a conference at The Leadership Center funded by the Nebraska Humanities Council entitled "The Prairie Project" in March, and held its first Annual Meeting in June at the Whitney cabin on a sandpit north of Hordville.
Howard Juhl donated a 4344-acre Sioux County ranch on the headwaters of the Niobrara River to be dedicated the Guadalcanal Memorial Prairie Ranch, to be kept as a working ranch as well as an education and research resource for Nebraska's panhandle region.
Received a gift of 40 acres of Colfax County land from Gene and Margaret Pokorny of Boston, including a 20-acre virgin prairie and a 20-acre restoration PPRI staff planted in 2002.
