The first deed of land recorded for Colfax County was that by which Abram P. Beeman, then of Platte, transferred the fractional lot 6, Section 27, Township 17, east of the Sixth Principal Meridian, being part of the island in the Platte River, to James Hashberger.

Speaking for the alliance Tuesday, Julia Stafford told the county commission the group was urging the county to take "proactive steps" to ensure oil and gas development does not negatively impact the water and overall environment of the Raton Basin.
