hackwriters.com - Anarchism, A very short introduction by Colin Ward - A Charlie Dickinson Review
Ward defines the intellectual "jewels" in the anarchism tradition as four in number: Englishman William Godwin (1756-1836), Frenchman Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-65), Russian Michael Bakunin (1814-76), and another Russian, Peter Kropotkin (1842-1921).
To Ward's way of thinking, libertarians are academics and anarchists of the Right, as contrasted with the social-activist anarchists of the Left (the latter having Ward's obvious sympathies).
Ward's rejection of libertarian anarchists as apologists for untrammelled capitalism seems a bit simplistic.

Ward is certainly Paul Goodman's most worthy heir, and those whose appetites are whetted by this book would do well to seek out Goodman's writings such as Drawing the Line, Communitas, and Utopian Essays and Practical Proposals.
In the introduction to the book, "Anarchy in Action" author Colin Ward states that his book's original title was "Anarchism as a Theory of Organization." Ward argues that this discarded title presents a more accurate description of the book's content.
Ward's thesis is that anarchism is "so much at variance with ordinary political assumptions" that it's rejected by those who cannot bridge the "gap between what is, and what according to the anarchist, might be." In other words, Ward argues anarchism's perceived impracticality--or impossible applications--lead to dismissal.
