The CCIW was formed April 26, 1946, as the College Conference of Illinois (CCI).
The CCIW sponsors 10 men's championships (1998-99 champions in parentheses): football (Millikin); soccer (Wheaton) and cross country (North Central) in fall; basketball and swimming (Wheaton) and wrestling (Augustana) in winter; and baseball (Carthage), outdoor track (North Central), golf (Augustana) and tennis (Ill. Wesleyan) in spring.
Merle Chapman, former athletic director and football coach at Millikin University, is the CCIW Commissioner, and Dave Wrath, Augustana's long-time S.I.D., is the CCIW publicist.

The CCIW sanctions 21 sports:  baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women’s golf, men's and women’s soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, volleyball and wrestling.
The CCIW began sponsorship of women's outdoor track and field as a championship sport in the 1986-87 school year.

The four-time All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) centerfielder graduated last weekend with English and Secondary education majors at Wheaton, and a 3.98 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
In CCIW games she was second on the Thunder with a.325 (13-40) batting average.
Her.429 batting average is third in the league, she is fourth in slugging percentage (.600) and is fourth in on-base percentage (.459).

Norbert College had won four straight games by a combined total of 13 points, and in the two games prior to the streak, the Green Knights lost in double overtime and dropped a three-point game at home.
Norbert College was 6-5 in games decided by five points or less this year.
